Well, here we are at the starting line.
This is a stunt something inspired by a stunt from 2012 that I ran across that is intended to raise money for RAINN, the organization that help survivors of sexual assault and abuse.
Later this year, I will be starting a project tentatively called Strikeforce: Liberty on my Patreon page. To generate characters that will interact in this project, I have taken 31 names from the Public Domain Super Hero Wiki as prompts and will create one each day for the month of May. If you donate to RAINN here, you may ‘sponsor’ one of those names like Scott Rowland did for our first entry and will get a chance to put your own spin on the character, or you may give me a name of your own devising for me to make a character instead.
You’ll notice these characters are all female, some (like this one) transgendered. I do this because I like women, and like seeing women in hero costumes. You’ll also notice that these characters are going to be from very diverse backgrounds racially. I do this because I like reading about characters from backgrounds other than mine own--Hell, I would find it boring to write only about white guys in late middle age. If you find this objectionable, then this month is not for you.
I am still looking for artists who are willing to donate a little time to make a sketch--it doesn’t have to be an elaborate finished product--visualizing these guys. I don’t want to present a parade of Hero Machine’d lookalikes. Even if you'd like to provide an alternate visualization of a character already presented, I'd appreciate it. If you’d like to participate, please DM me through Twitter (@NocturneTomDeja).
If you are a Domicile of Dread Patreon, you’ll get a short podcast discussing the creation process for each character. If you’d like to hear these podcasts and can spare at least a dollar a month to support my efforts to Make The World Stranger, go here to sign up.
Please enjoy, and please donate.
On with the show!
THE PURPLE TIGRESS (Sponsored by Scott Rowland)
Name: Norma Hynkel
Location: Las Vegas, Nevada
Norma is an African-American transgendered performer for the Phoenix Club. Her brother, a noted scientist, was working for a firm that turned out to be a front for Serpentine, the criminal empire run by the immortal, immoral Deathless Brain. He took his innovations on the run and ended up at the Club. He handed Norma his work and disappeared into the night--only to be murdered by Serpentine Agents.
Norma took her brother’s handiwork and, thirsting for the blood of the villains who killed her sibling, fashioned the identity of the Purple Tigress. She now spends the days training vigorously, and the darkest hours of the night making the Vegas Strip safe for tourists and citizens alike...while also searching for evidence that will lead her to Serpentine and its illusive leader.
The Purple Tigress incorporates technology devised by her brother into her uniform. The uniform itself is made out of a ballistic cloth. The underside of her cloak contains optical filaments that emit a random pattern of light that serves to disorient her opponents are partial conceal her own position. Her goggles allow her to see into the infrared and ultraviolet spectrum.
Tomorrow: So who is this Deathless Brain, anyway?
